Passive Voice
English two voices: active and passive. In the ACTIVE VOICE the subject is the performer of the main action. In the PASSIVE VOICE the subject is the recipient of the main action. Ὅ μηρος λ ύ ει τ ὸ ν ἄ νθρωπον. “Homer frees the man.” ὁ ἄ νθρωπος λ ύ εται. “The man is freed.” In Greek VERBS ENDINGS ALWAYS INDICATE THE VOICE OF THE VERB. Passives

Present Passive Add the PRIMARY ENDINGS to the PRESENT STEM to form the PRESENT PASSIVE. λ ύ ομαι λ ύῃ / λ ύ ει λ ύ εται λύ - ω λυ ό μεθα λ ύ εσθε λ ύ ονται λ ύ ομαι λ ύῃ / λ ύ ει λ ύ εται λυ ό μεθα λ ύ εσθε λ ύ ονται “I am freed” “You are freed” “He/she/it is freed” “We are freed” “Y’all are freed” “They are freed”
Imperfect Passive Add the SECONDARY ENDINGS to the IMPERFECT STEM to form the IMPERFECT PASSIVE. ἐ λυ ό μην ἐ λ ύ ου ἐ λ ύ ετο λύ - ω ἐ λυ ό μεθα ἐ λ ύ εσθε ἐ λ ύ οντο ἐ λυ ό μην ἐ λ ύ ου ἐ λ ύ ετο ἐ λυ ό μεθα ἐ λ ύ εσθε ἐ λ ύ οντο “I was being freed” “You were being freed” “He/she/it was being freed” “We were being freed” “Y’all were being freed” “They were being freed”

Aorist Passive The Aorist Passive is formed from the sixth principle part of any verb. κελεύω, κελεύσω, ἐκέλευσα, κεκέλευκα, κεκέλευσμαι, ἐκελεύσθην λύω, λύσω, ἔλυσα, λέλυκα, λέλυμαι, ἐλύθην παιδεύω, παιδεύσω, ἐπαίδευσα, πεπαίδευκα, πεπαίδευμαι, ἐπαιδεύθην πέμπω, πέμψω, ἔπεμψα, πέπομφα, πέπεμμαι, ἐπέμφθην
