He isn’t working Spelling Rules: 1. - e -> - e αποβάλλεται + ing (live-living) - ee -> - eeing (see-seeing) Ρήμα ‘sos’ τονούμενο -> διπλασιασμός τελικού συμφώνου (stop-stopping, run-running, begin-beginning αλλά: enter-entering & travel – travelling) 3. - ie -> –ie αποβάλλεται, y + ing (die-dying, lie-lying)

A. Present Perfect Simple or Present Perfect Continuous? 1. Why are you out of breath? - I (run) ____________________. 2. The toaster is okay again. Dad (repair) __________________ it. 3. I am so tired, I (work) ________________ all day. 4. Your shirt is clean now. Maggie (wash)__________________ it. 5. I'm afraid, I'm getting a cold. I (walk) _________home in the rain. 6. Your clothes smell awful! (you / smoke) ___________________? 7. Peggy is ready for her exam now. I (help)_____________ her prepare for it. 8. PAST PERFECT SIMPLE 1. Για πράξη που έγινε πριν από μια άλλη ή πριν από μια χρονική στιγμή στο παρελθόν. Δηλ. για δύο πράξεις στο παρελθόν, η πρώτη είναι σε Υπερσυντέλικο και η δεύτερη σε Αόριστο απλό. I had eaten before you came = I had eaten by the time you came. He had finished the project by 9 o’clock. The film had already started when we arrived = When we arrived, the film had already started.

I had been cooking for two hours when the bell rang. I had been living in Heraklion for ten years until the year 2010. SIMPLE FUTURE The student will probably apply for the position. 1. Χρησιμοποιείται μετά από ρήματα που δηλώνουν ΓΝΩΜΗ ΠΡΟΒΛΕΨΗ, ΕΛΠΙΔΑ, ΦΟΒΟ για το μέλλον, όπως: expect, be afraid, be sure, believe, hope, know ή επιρρήματα όπως το certainly, definitely, perhaps, possibly, probably. I hope that you will sleep early tonight. The student will probably apply for the position. 2. Για να περιγράψει απόφαση της στιγμής (on-the-spot decision). It’s stuffy in here. I will open the window. 3. Για να εκφράσει απειλή. Do it right now or I’ll punish you!

SIMPLE FUTURE Shall ή Will?: 2. Κατάφαση = ‘’θα’’ Ι will buy = I shall buy Άρνηση = ‘’δεν θα’’ Ι will not buy = I shall not buy I won’t buy = I shan’t buy Ερώτηση = ‘’να’’ α) για να προτείνουμε κάτι. Shall we eat a pizza? β) για να προσφέρουμε βοήθεια. Shall I help you? γ) για να ζητήσουμε μια συμβουλή. What shall I do?

FUTURE CONTINUOUS 1. Για μια πράξη που θα είναι σε εξέλιξη σε συγκεκριμένη στιγμή του μέλλοντος. Tomorrow at noon I will be sleeping. At this time next week I will be flying to Berlin.

Future Simple: I will fly to Rome in June. be to = πρόκειται να I am to fly to Rome in June. be due to = αναμένεται The plane is due to arrive at 5 pm. be bound to = είναι σίγουρο ότι This plan is bound to succeed. be about to = είμαι έτοιμος να I’m sorry but I can’t help you now; I’m about to leave.

FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE 1. Για πράξη που θα έχει γίνει πριν από μια στιγμή ή πριν από άλλη πράξη στο μέλλον. Δηλαδή, για δύο πράξεις στο μέλλον, η πρώτη είναι σε Συντελεσμένο Μέλλοντα απλό και η δεύτερη συνήθως σε Ενεστώτα απλό. [‘’by’’ + ώρα // ‘’by the time’’ + πράξη] I will have finished by nine. We will have eaten by the time you come. 2. Για να περιγράψει μια πράξη που λογικά / πιθανόν θα έχει γίνει. It’s too late. The film will have finished. Nobody is answering the phone. They will have left.

STATIVE VERBS – Α. Α. Ορισμένα ρήματα (stative verbs) δεν σχηματίζονται στους χρόνους διαρκείας, όπως: Ρήματα αισθήσεως: hear, κλπ. Ρήματα που εκφράζουν γνώμη: agree, believe, regard, seem, understand κλπ. Ρήματα που εκφράζουν συναισθήματα: care, dislike, envy, forgive, κλπ. Άλλα ρήματα: belong, contain, cost, know, need, owe, prefer, require, remember, want, κλπ.

STATIVE VERBS – Β. Β. Ορισμένα άλλα ρήματα (stative verbs) σχηματίζουν χρόνους απλούς & διαρκείας αλλά με διαφορετικό νόημα: Ρήματα αισθήσεως: feel, taste, see, smell κλπ. Ρήματα που εκφράζουν γνώμη: consider, κλπ. Ρήματα που εκφράζουν συναισθήματα: like, love κλπ. Άλλα ρήματα: appear, be, weigh, wish κλπ.

STATE ACTION STATIVE VERBS – Β1. The milk tastes awful. He is tasting the sauce. Το γάλα έχει απαίσια γεύση. Αυτός δοκιμάζει τη σάλτσα. I see you are in trouble. I’m seeing my lawyer tonight. Βλέπω/καταλαβαίνω Θα δω/έχω ραντεβού ότι έχεις πρόβλημα. με τον δικηγόρο μου απόψε. The kitchen smells Why are you smelling of burnt meat. your food? Η κουζίνα έχει μυρωδιά Γιατί μυρίζεις το φαγητό σου; από καμένο κρέας.
