My country is called Hellas a nd took its name from “Hellin” who was the first son of Defkalion and Pyrra according to the ancient Greek mythology.
Zeus, the leader of the twelve Gods, sent a great flood to punish disrespectful people. The parents of “Hellin” were saved on a boat that anchored in the mountain of Parnassos. When the flood was over all people were drowned.
When Defkalion was saved, he asked Zeus to create the human race again. Zeus told him to throw stones behind him. Men came from the stones Defkalion threw and women from the stones Pyrra threw.
Το πρώτο τους παιδί ο Δευκαλίωνας και η Πύρρα το ονόμασαν Έλληνα, που σημαίνει φωτεινός άνθρωπος. Defkalion and Pyrra named their first son “Hellina” which means bright man.
The descendants of “Hellin” gave the spiritual light in the ancient world and the name Hellas to our country which means a bright and spiritual place.
