Page 3 Page 6 Ανακοινώσεις - Announcements Welcome and Good Morning Welcome to the St. Markella Greek Orthodox Church! If you are visiting us for the first time, we are honored to have you with us! The Divine Liturgy offers us communion with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through hymns and prayers, the hearing of the Holy Gospel, and the Holy Eucharist. It is a time of personal and corporate prayer, and in the words of our Lord: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them. Please note that only those who are baptized and/or confirmed in an Eastern Orthodox Church and are in good standing in the Orthodox faith may participate in the Holy Sacraments of the Church, including receiving Holy Communion. At the end of the Liturgy, you are invited to come up and receive blessed holy bread, called "antidoron". If you have questions about this, please feel free to ask our priest! We invite you to join us after this morning's Liturgy for coffee hour. Please take the time to visit our website (www.agia-markella.org) for regular updates as well as interesting articles and links. Furthermore, it will be a great pleasure for Fr. Sarantis to meet you. May God bless you and, again, welcome.www.agia-markella.org The fellowship hour is offered by the family Memorial Service- μνημόσυνο LENTEN AND HOLY FLOWER OFFERINGS Please consider one of these items for the heath of your family or in Memory of a loved one One of the many beautiful traditions which accompany the celebration of the Greek Orthodox Holy Week is for the faithful of the Church to bring a flat white sheet to be used during the services when we take Jesus down from the Cross on Good Friday afternoon. Upon the completion of the 40 days after the Resurrection of Christ, Ascension Thursday, these sheets are returned to the faithful and are to be kept in each person’s home. Upon the passing away of a loved one, it is traditional to take this sheet, which was once blessed by carrying the body of the Lord, and place it over our loved one on the day of his or her funeral. Please bring only one sheet per family, and in blue ink, write your family name and “ Easter 2015” on the sheet so it can be returned to you after the Feast of the Ascension. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- For the Lenten and Holy Flower offerings please contact the church office at 516-783- 5760 or fill out the form below. The Gospel of Mark 2:1-12 2 nd Sunday of Lent At that time, Jesus entered Capernaum and it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven." Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, "Why does this man speak thus? It is a blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?" And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your pallet and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins"-he said to the paralytic-"I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home." And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"
