Please come and join us! 11th Sunday of Luke - The Gospel of Luke 14:16-24 The Lord said this parable: "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time of the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for all is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.' And the servant said, 'Sir, what you commanded has been done, and there is still room.' And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet. For many are called, but few are chosen.'" Purpose of Sunday Schools Most Sunday schools aim at providing children with an opportunity to study the Bible. The Sunday school education often includes a comprehensive study of the Bible. It intends to imbibe in the minds of the people, the principles and philosophies stated in the Bible. One of the primary purposes of the Sunday school is to teach the Bible to the students. The Sunday school teaching aims at instilling in the minds of the students, faith in God and teaching them the principles, which Christ adhered to. The education imparted in Sunday schools is generally intended to promote Christian fellowship. One of the primary goals of a Sunday school is to evangelize people, thereby promoting the spread of Christianity. It aims at bringing people from different levels of society together. It aims at uniting the people under one common umbrella called Christianity. The preachings of Jesus Christ are shared with the common masses and they are encouraged to adhere to His principles. Sunday school is meant to teach the common people, the principles of social service. Sunday schools are about teaching the people to be concerned towards society and work for its betterment. It is about encouraging the people to be positive in life and imbibe optimism in those around them. It is about instilling in the young minds, love and care towards others in society. The Sunday school education aims at bringing about the spread of justice and equality in society Sunday schools aim at helping people from all age groups to adopt the principles of God. Sunday school education intends to teach people the ways to adhere to ideals in life. At times, this involves the learning of scriptures from the Bible. Learning what the Bible has to say helps the people communicate with God. Enabling the communication of a common man with God is an important goal of Sunday schools. T hey aim at bringing about a spiritual growth of their students. The purpose of Sunday schools is indeed noble. One must not ignore the fact that Sunday schools give the society an opportunity to be a part of the mission of Christianity to establish equality, peace and harmony in society. Indeed, it would be a positive experience for your children. What do you think? Bring your children to Sunday school and see the difference in them!

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away; anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Και την ώραν, που θα παρετίθετο το δείπνον, έστειλε τον δούλον του να πη στους προσκαλεσμένους· Ελάτε διότι τώρα είναι τα πάντα έτοιμα. Και αυτοί σαν να ήταν συνεννοημένοι ήρχισαν να παραιτούνται όλοι από το δείπνον με διαφόρους δικαιολογίας· ο πρώτος είπε· Αγόρασα ένα αγρόν και έχω ανάγκην να βγω έξω και να τον ίδω· σε παρακαλώ να με θεωρήσης απηλλαγμένον από την υποχρέωσιν να παρακαθίσω στο δείπνον. Και άλλος είπε· Αγόρασα πέντε ζευγάρια βώδια και πηγαίνω να τα δοκιμάσω· σε παρακαλώ να θεωρήσης δικαιολογημένην την απουσίαν μου. Και άλλος είπε· Ενυμφεύθην και δια τούτο δεν μπορώ να έλθω. Και επέστρεψε ο δούλος εκείνος προς τον κύριον του και του διηγήθηκε όλα αυτά. Τοτε, γεμάτος οργήν ο οικοδεσπότης εναντίον των αναξίων προσκαλεσμένων, είπε στον δούλον του· Εβγα γρήγορα εις τας πλατείας και τους δρόμους της πόλεως και φέρε εδώ μέσα τους πτωχούς και τους αναπήρους και τους χωλούς και τους τυφλούς. Και αφού εξετέλεσε την εντολήν του Κυρίου του ο δούλος, είπε· Κυριε, έγινε όπως διέταξες, και είναι ακόμη τόπος αδειανός. Και είπεν ο κύριος προς τον δούλον· Εβγα στους δρόμους, στους φράκτες των κτημάτων, έξω από την πόλιν και παρακίνησε με επιμονήν όλους όσους εύρης να έλθουν εδώ, δια να γεμίση οίκος μου. Διότι σας διαβεβαιώνω, ότι κανείς από τους προσκαλεσμένους εκείνους άνδρες δεν θα γευθή τίποτε από το δείπνον μου”. (Οι κυρίως προσκεκλημένοι, οι πνευματικοί άρχοντες του Ισραήλ και οι άλλοι Εβραίοι, αποροφημένοι από τα υλικά των συμφέροντα και την ματαιοδοξίαν των, ηρνήθησαν την πρόσκλησιν του Χριστού και απέκλεισαν τον ευατόν των από την βασιλείαν των ουρανών. Οι τελώναι και οι αμαρτωλοί και οι ειδωλολάτραι, οι περιφρονημένοι από τους γραμματείς και τους Φαρισαίους εδέχθησαν με ευγνωμοσύνην και ταπείνωσιν την τιμητικήν πρόσκλησιν και έγιναν έτσι ένδοξα μέλη της βασιλείας των ουρανών).
