Research in the Human Singing Voice (MA or MSc) Ongoing activities include: Longitudinal quantification of children's singing voice development. Listener perception of girl/boy chorister voices. Acoustic analysis of pronunciation in plainsong. PD based formant singing synthesis. Intonation analysis in a capella quartet singing. Research in Spatial Audio (MSc) s. Theoretical spatial audio research looks to model and reproduce ideals based on clear objective measures. This includes work on: reverberation and the modelling of acoustic space the development of multi-speaker playback systems and panning algorithms spatial coding mechanisms and two-channel (binaural) alternatives to multi-speaker presentation Research in Composition with Digital Media (MA) Learning Outcomes. By the end of this programme students should: understand the position of their work within a contemporary aesthetic context; have developed a high degree of skill in the application of new technologies in contemporary art; have refined their compositional techniques and practices to produce high quality creative works for digital media. Research in Music Technology for Special Needs (MSc) Computer Interfaces Using Audio (MSc) Ongoing interactive sonification projects include the use of interaction with data as sound to: determine the location of landmines aid physiotherapists in the analysis of muscle data provide fast feedback to helicopter flight analysts analyse cancer cells detect heart defects

PARCOURS MULTI-MENTIONS DU MASTER SCIENCES ET TECHNOLOGIES (UPMC) EN COLLABORATION AVEC TELECOM PARISTECH ET L'IRCAM prochain appel à candidatures : avril 2009 PRESENTATION Créée à l'initiative de plusieurs institutions françaises actives dans le domaine de la recherche musicale, soutenue par le ministère de la Culture et initalement co-habilitée par quatre établissements d'enseignement supérieur, la formation ATIAM a été conçue pour délivrer les bases scientifiques et la culture musicale permettant d'aborder les recherches dans les domaines de l'acoustique musicale, du traitement du signal sonore et de l'informatique musicale.  Après plus de dix ans de fonctionnement, plus d'une centaine de thèses de doctorat ont été engagées. Les débouchés de cette formation se trouvent principalement dans la recherche et l'enseignement mais aussi dans l'industrie, dans les domaines du son et de la musique.

Organized by the Dept. of Information and Communication Technologies of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona in collaboration with the Dept. of Sonology of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. Introduction Sound and Music Computing (SMC) is an interdisciplinary field that approaches the whole sound and music communication chain from a multidisciplinary point of view. By combining scientific, technological and artistic methodologies it aims at understanding, modeling and generating sound and music through computational approaches Its core academic subjects relate to musicology, physics (acoustics), engineering (including computer science, signal processing and electronics), psychology (including psychoacoustics, experimental psychology and neurosciences) and music composition. Current areas of application include digital music instruments, music production, music information retrieval, digital music libraries, interactive multimedia systems, auditory interfaces and augmented action and perception (e.g. bionic ears, digital prosthesis and multi-modal extensions of the human body). The Master of the UPF focuses on the more technological aspects of this field.
