3 Προβλημα Τα περισσότερα προγράμματα σπουδών αποτυγχάνουν να βοηθήσουν τους μαθητές να αναπτύξουν μοντέλα για να ερμηνεύουν φαινόμενα ανάμεσα σε διαφορετικές κλίμακες. (Schank, Krajcik, & Yunker, 2007). Καταδεικνύεται από πολλές έρευνες η αδυναμία της κατανόησης της κλίμακας από μαθητές αλλά και ενήλικες. (Tretter, Jones, Andre, Negishi, & Minogue, 2006· Light et al., 2007· Delgado, Stevens, Shin, Yunker, & Krajcik, 2007· Taylor & Jones, 2009)

The mystery of the lotus effect Engage Have a student read the case study for the crime scene aloud, each lab group is a team working for Ms. Nan O’Meter to investigate the crime scene. Students should use Student Sheet 1 to guide them through this activity. Explore Why was the mystery plant not covered in blood? Have the students find the baggie with a sample of the mystery plant and explore the interaction between the leaf and 2–3 drops of “blood.” Ask them to answer the question, Could blood have splattered, but not adhered to the plant? Το φυτό δίπλα στο θύμα δεν έχει κηλίδες αίματος, άρα ίσως το έφερε κάποιος μετά τον φόνο. Πρέπει να διερευνηθεί αυτό το ενδεχόμενο. Το θύμα φαίνεται να είχε μολυνθεί από κάποιον θανατηφόρο ιό. Θα πρέπει να ερευνηθεί ξανά το αίμα του θύματος και να βρεθούν στοιχεία αναφορικά με την ασθένεια. Η πόρτα του σπιτιού δεν είχε παραβιαστεί και ήταν κλειδωμένη από μέσα. Μοναδικό στοιχείο για τον τρόπο εισόδου του δράστη το ανοιχτό παράθυρο. Τα ρούχα του θύματος δεν είχαν ούτε ίχνος αίματος. Κάποιος του άλλαξε ρούχα μετά το φόνο;
