Senior Citizens - Golden Stars Our Senior Citizens Group has been regrouped and meets every Thursday at noon until 2pm for now, in the church hall. Please come and join us! 10th Sunday of Luke - The Gospel of Luke 13:10-17 At that time, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day." Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?" As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him. Purpose of Sunday Schools Most Sunday schools aim at providing children with an opportunity to study the Bible. The Sunday school education often includes a comprehensive study of the Bible. It intends to imbibe in the minds of the people, the principles and philosophies stated in the Bible. One of the primary purposes of the Sunday school is to teach the Bible to the students. The Sunday school teaching aims at instilling in the minds of the students, faith in God and teaching them the principles, which Christ adhered to. The education imparted in Sunday schools is generally intended to promote Christian fellowship. One of the primary goals of a Sunday school is to evangelize people, thereby promoting the spread of Christianity. It aims at bringing people from different levels of society together. It aims at uniting the people under one common umbrella called Christianity. The preachings of Jesus Christ are shared with the common masses and they are encouraged to adhere to His principles. Sunday school is meant to teach the common people, the principles of social service. Sunday schools are about teaching the people to be concerned towards society and work for its betterment. It is about encouraging the people to be positive in life and imbibe optimism in those around them. It is about instilling in the young minds, love and care towards others in society. The Sunday school education aims at bringing about the spread of justice and equality in society Sunday schools aim at helping people from all age groups to adopt the principles of God. Sunday school education intends to teach people the ways to adhere to ideals in life. At times, this involves the learning of scriptures from the Bible. Learning what the Bible has to say helps the people communicate with God. Enabling the communication of a common man with God is an important goal of Sunday schools. T hey aim at bringing about a spiritual growth of their students. The purpose of Sunday schools is indeed noble. One must not ignore the fact that Sunday schools give the society an opportunity to be a part of the mission of Christianity to establish equality, peace and harmony in society. Indeed, it would be a positive experience for your children. What do you think? Bring your children to Sunday school and see the difference in them!

Καποιο Σαββατο εδίδασκε εις μίαν από τας συναγωγάς. Και ιδού είχε έλθει εκεί μία γυναίκα, η οποία ένεκα μοχθηράς επιδράσεως πονηρού πνεύματος, ήτο ασθενής δέκα οκτώ χρόνια, σκυμμένη συνεχώς, χωρίς καθόλου να ημπορή να σηκώση όρθιον το σώμα και την κεφαλήν της. Οταν την είδε ο Ιησούς, της εφώναξε και της είπε· “γυναίκα, ελευθερώνεσαι από την ασθένειάν σου”. Και έβαλεν επάνω της τας χείρας του. Και αμέσως εστάθηκε όρθια αυτή, απέκτησε δηλαδή την υγείαν της και εδόξαζε τον Θεόν. Ο δε αρχισυνάγωγος αγανακτών, διότι ο Ιησούς εις ημέραν Σαββάτου εθεράπευσε, έλαβε τον λόγον και είπε στον λαόν· “εξ ημέραι είναι εκείναι, κατά τας οποίας πρέπει να εργαζώμεθα· εις αυτάς δε τας εργασίμους ημέρας να έρχεσθε και να θεραπεύεσθε και όχι κατά την ημέραν του Σαββάτου”. Απεκρίθη τότε εις αυτούς ο Κυριος και είπε· υποκριτά, καθένας από σας κατά την ημέραν του Σαββάτου δεν λύει το βώδι του η τον όνον από την φάτνην του και πηγαίνει να το ποτίση; Αυτό δεν το θεωρείτε παράβασιν της αργίας του Σαββάτου, και πολύ ορθώς. Αυτή δε, που είναι θυγάτηρ και απόγονος το Αβραάμ, την οποίαν ο σατανάς έδεσε δέκα οκτώ ολόκληρα χρόνια, δεν έπρεπε να λυθή από τον βαρύν και καταθλιπτικόν αυτόν δεσμόν κατά την ημέραν του Σαββάτου;” Και ενώ ο Κυριος έλεγε αυτά, κατεντροπιάζοντο όλοι οι εχθροί του· αντιθέτως δε όλος ο λαός έχαιρε δι' όλα τα θαυμαστά έργα που εγίνοντο απ' αυτόν (διότι είχε ακόμη ο λαός άδολον την καρδίαν και ανεπηρέαστον από τας συκοφαντίας των Φαρισαίων).
